چکیده

Many existing methods for temporal trend detection in environmental space-time data are based on grouping observations simply by geographical proximity. Such grouping is often static and thus does not account for changes in space-time data distribution. In this project we evaluate properties of the new data mining algorithm for dynamic detection of space-time patterns, TRUST, proposed by Ciampi et al. [3], [4]. In particular, we explore sensitivity of TRUST in respect to choice of tuning parameters and consider a case study of dynamic cluster detection in yearly precipitation records among 167 stations in Central Germany over 1951–2010.

Precipitation and microphysical processes observed by three polarimetric X-band radars and ground-based instrumentation during HOPE

This study presents a first analysis of precipitation and related microphysical processes observed by three polarimetric X-band Doppler radars (BoXPol, JuXPol and KiXPol) in conjunction with a ground-based network of disdrometers, rain gauges and vertically pointing micro rain radars (MRRs) during the High Definition Clouds and Precipitation for advancing Climate Prediction (HD(CP)2) Observatio...

Complex climate controls on 20th century oak growth in Central-West Germany.

We analyze interannual to multi-decadal growth variations of 555 oak trees from Central-West Germany. A network of 13 pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) and 33 sessile oak (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl.) site chronologies is compared with gridded temperature, precipitation, cloud-cover, vapor pressure and drought (i.e., Palmer Drought Severity Index, PDSI) fluctuations. A hierarchic cluster an...

Non‐linear time series analysis of precipitation events using regional climate networks for Germany

In Germany, spatial structures of precipitation are mainly determined by the orography and its position in relation to the sea. This is not only the case for long-term means of precipitation sums (Klein and Menz 2003), but holds true for heavy precipitation as well, as shown on the basis of the frequency of daily sums of 10 mm and more (Gerstengarbe and Werner 2009). As visualized in Fig. 1, la...

Assessing the variability of precipitation during the Holocene from stalagmite records

Stalagmites can be dated very precisely with Th/U. The growth rate of stalagmites is generally in the range between 30 and 100 μm year. Stable isotopes sampled at a resolution of 50-100 μm yield information with a resolution ranging from a sub-decadal to centennial scale. Precipitation determines the growth periods of the stalagmites and the stable isotope signal is mainly a proxy for the inten...
